The Ex Hex

3.5/5
Rounded up to 3.5. This was not what I expected. It's also not normally the genre I read. I decided to try something different and out of my comfort zone, so to speak. It was not altogether bad, I did enjoy the story just not a full four stars.

Let's start with the good. I liked the characters and some actually showed some growth. The setting was fine as well, though I'm sure not many Georgians drink that much hot tea, probably more coffee drinkers. Loved the talking cat. Sir Purrcival. The mystery. Loved the mystery. How they got the information from ghost Piper. How they fixed the curse. Liked that. Even meeting Da after and the Jones' stood up to him. I did have a chuckle or two.

What was not so good. The language. Good grief the bad language. I know there was to be some but wow, not that much. Big dislike there. It wasn't needed. Then the whole scenes of Vivi and Rhys between the sheets. Again this of course was not my genre, but I thought it was a bit much and too often. The town is being magic cursed, all the want is to stay in bed.

Found out her pen name and was blown away. Loved the wife upstairs. How could she have written both of these ??

In her dedication she thanked writers that I actually like and was hopeful this was be just as good as, but it wasn't.

All in all it was a nice fun read. Just not a fantastic one.

A Slow Fire Burning

One I read the chapter of the book I laughed really hard and enjoyed It. Thought the rest would be the same.

It was not a bad book at all. But by the time I got towards the middle, I forgot what the reason behind the book and what the big revaluation was supposed to be. So you can imagine, when It was revealed, not much of a response.

This was the first book I read by Paula Hawkins, so not much to compare it too. The characters were unique and somewhat unbelievable. Irene being my favorite. Some of the story was a bit unbelievable as well. Especially when it came to the manuscript and book.

As I said not a bad story, not over the top either. It was an Interesting read.

Survive the Night

4/5

I feel I may be in the minority on this one. I really liked it. I had most of it figured out, but still found it interesting to read and wondered how it would end.

First off, let's talk about Charlie how she is not a smart cookie. She does some of the dumbest things. I am truly amazed she survives anything. She's not the brightest crayon in the box.

I liked the red herrings that were tossed in there along with a pretty good twist. I liked that it shifted a couple times and you were not sure if it was coming or going. I realize and know most of this book is far fetched and not the most correct in a lot of ways. There were a couple times something was used or said that was not in the 90s timeline.

The mention of many classic movies is always a welcome thing. Alfred Hitchcock is awesome and so are his movies. I loved this about the book. All those classic movies.

I definitely liked it

The Rose Code

4/5

This is my favorite from this author. Enjoyable read.

Showed the different part of the war through code breaking and all that goes with it. Separate departments for each step of the way. This story focused on three women from very different backgrounds and personalities, they come together for a greater good. One of the characters, Beth included her mom. I could have just knocked Beth's mom out.

Liked the two time settings. There were only a few years between each. Not much difference but enough to see what's happened. To all three of our characters. I found the characters likable. They each had their own viewpoint and right or wrong, was very enlightening to see how each of them thought and looked at things. Again, Beth being the odd one, but very interesting. I enjoyed how some played off each other. When tragedy hit the pain was felt. Loved that the heroines were women, especially in the code breaking aspect of the war.

I recommend this one.

In The Dark

4/5

This was very different book worthy of the Agatha Christie references. Note, I love Agatha Christie. Poirot is my favorite. All those grey cells that need to be used.

I thought I knew who was the bad guy, but loved how this turned out. Everyone had something to hide, being brought together just made those hidden secrets come to light. That made it even more interesting.

I liked that each character had a viewpoint, right from the beginning. Some things were made apparent right away and some not so much. The setting was perfect with the Agatha Christie poem from "Then There Was None" or "Ten Little Indians" which is a reference to the poem left from the who set the trap for revenge. It was not Agatha Christie book, it was a little more intense and a little more different viewpoints that showed us how the felt.

One accident, that could have been handled differently if only ...

I liked this book and will be reading more from this author

The Night She Disappeared

4/5

Really liked this one !!! Worthy of four stars.
The story pulls you in right away. You form an opinion pretty quick. Then you get to know more about what happen and more about the characters.

I will admit I love the name Tallulah. But she is not the brightest crayon in the box. There were a couple times I yelled about how stupid she was, scared my dogs. Who is honestly not that bright ?? Obviously I did not agree with her decisions and thought there were better options especially since she is a mom.

I did like most of the characters and found it interesting how many were pulled towards this one girl. Scarlet. Another good name. Sophie is probably one of my favorites. Thought not sure I agree with her last decision.

The story. Interesting and unique. Told in three different timelines within a couple years. Two people disappeared and no trace of them. It's show's leading up to and afterwards. I will say that was one heck of an ending that I was not expecting all of.

Let's talk about that tunnel. Was I the only one that wanted to see more of that tunnel. I wanted to explore that tunnel.

Solid read worth all four stars !!! Think this is my favorite of hers.

Local Woman Missing

Rounded up to 3.5.

This was the first story I have read from this author and thought was pretty good. Not 4 star nor a 3 star.

The story was good but dragged a bit. I have it figured out who just not about Delilah. It was told from several view points. I liked Leo's and Delilah. As another reviewer pointed out there were a couple of Dick and Jane sentences. See Jane. See Jane play. One example,"It's Bea's birthday. Today Bea turns thirty years old. They come to celebrate." I didn't mind it to much just seemed repetitive.

I liked the characters for the most part. Again Leo turned out to be my favorite. He seems to be the only one to actually think and question things as they should be.

The ending left me wondering. The story did have a couple of plot twists.

All in all not a bad book.
