The Hollow of Fear

3/5
This was not a favorite of this series.

Not much happened till the last half of the book and then it was a bit confusing. Hopefully the next one will be better if I continue the series.

The Mystery of Mrs. Christie

3/5
I don't know what I was expecting but this was not it. This left me in a foul mood to say the least. I am a big fan of Agatha Christie and this book seems to be missing the chemistry it takes to make this an extraordinary book. Lacks what made Agatha Christie a great mystery novelist. It was wide open. I do give the author credit as she stayed with what was known about the disappearance. Her take on it was not completely horrible just seemed flat.

One thing I do know about Agatha Christie, was the fact she loved her poisons. It mentions this in the before view point, and not as part of the plot of the missing 11 days. The whole book was slow, and not much really happens. I was expecting more action or hidden agenda.

I did like the meet cute between her and her husband, but that is the best I can say about him. More then anything I really just did not like him. I don't know for sure if he was like this, and I know war changes people. He was a jerk from the time they were married until the end of the book. I thought he was anyway, but this was just way worse. I found him horrible, especially asking for a divorce right after Agatha's mom passed. Who does that ?? Someone selfish that is for sure.

The characters I found, were not likeable for the most part. They were flat or seemed to have no personality. The exception would be her sister Madge. She was brash I think and did not hold back her tongue much. Especially when it was needed. Of course, I did like Agatha.

I don't think the story was totally bad. As I said, the story want along with what was known of the disappearance. Her view of it was pretty interesting but it just seemed to fall short on the chemistry or the feel of the story.

Churchill's Messenger

5/5
When I saw this book I just had to read it. I am a big fan of Winston Churchill. I expected a lot from this book, and it delivered. It was a mix of Kristin Harmel, Martha Hall Kelly, with a touch of An Affair To Remember. To say the least, I was pleased with this book and will read The Long Flight Home.

I actually liked Rose. I liked her spunk and ingenuity. She was definitely a plucky girl. I also like Lazare and wished more people listened to both of them when needed. They were smart, and had compassion. I liked the others as well. I am not a big romantic person but felt this was done well.

I had tears, I was on the edge of my seat, and angry. This book had all the feels. I recommend this book if you like Historical Fiction with a touch of love.

The Perfect Daughter

4/5
I admit this book was better than I was expecting. I was always fascinated by the aspect of multiple personalities. I did have some parts figured out but enjoyed the read. Kept me interested and at some points page turning to see what would happen.
thri

I really did feel for Penny and was surprised that it wasn’t figured out sooner by doctors what she had, and the fact there are actually doctors who do t believe in DID. To be honest I wasn’t sure if she was faking or not.

Grace was one I was most frustrated with. All she cared Val out was Penny and getting her an innocent verdict. I am determined when it comes to my kids but I’m not stupid. I know you have to keep a business open to pay for everything. Grace was not worried about that. Nor was she worried enough about her other child to actually take some sort of action to help.

I did have couple things figured out at different times. For the most part I was happy with the ending. What I would have liked to have seen is more of a conclusion and more of what happened after the trial with Penny. It kinda left you hanging but I understood why. Just could have maybe wrapped it up a bit better.

I would recommend this book. It was different and kept you guessing.

Woman in the Mirror

4/5
Wrote a review, guess it didn't save.

This book, was one I had very high hopes for, who wouldn't ?? With the Winterbourne home on the cliffs, very Wuthering Heights feel. Sadly, it fell short. I liked the overall story and the creepy setting was a perfect start.

One of the biggest things that bothered me and I am guessing I am the only one, not seeing anyone else write it but, the timeline in Alice's story. A file was found and it was different then the actions seen at the house. This bothered me the most. I thought the author may have been trying to hard, adding things that did not needed to be added. I wanted to know more about the painting, the witch, the twins and Alice Miller. The sub stories were not needed. I did also want to know if the mirror and painting were related. Did one effect the other ??

The story seemed to drag in many places. It felt long and drawn out. Most of the action actually takes place towards the end. It was hard to hold my attention some spots. The spots would have been better if shorten or even more action.

I did like the creepy, I liked the spooky, and even liked the research that was done in the end. It was not a horrible book. Like I said over all I did like it.

The Wrong Family

3/5
This one is a bit hard for me to review. Every time I started reading this book, I literally fell asleep. To finish it I had to read it when I first woke up. I was not impressed by this book. It was the first time I have read anything by this author. I was hoping for better.

The story was unique enough. I am not sure just how it could have been done. The story moved slow, the question or event was evident pretty quickly. Of course you need to read to find the answers. There was not a lot of excitement until toward the end. then you find out more then you thought, but it was not a shocking twist. It was more of an ok, I got it, moment.

I did not relate to any of the characters and did not really like them. They all seemed too artificial. Too unreal. I could have maybe had some empathy for the Juno but she was maybe worse then Winnie. Winnie did hid things but nothing like Juno. Was not happy with any of the characters.

I don't like to put down the book or author, so I will just say, this was not a book for me. It did not live up to my expectations, and hopefully if I read another from this author it will be better.

The Drowning Kind

3/5
I am again against the flow on this one. Was it a good story ?? Yes. I would not call it a creepy thriller. I liked the story, it was interesting but fell short and was disappointing after reading all the reviews.

The characters, I liked most of them and I could even understand how Jax felt being in her sister's shadow. Lexie being the favored child was a cause of some odd things. The actions of Jax did not go with those of a phycologist. All the pot smoking and drinking by the characters, especially Lexie, did not help this story. At least not for me. How can you believe what you see when you alter you mind with pot and alcohol.

The story, I did like it, thought it was unique and different. It was predictable, with no twists. This can be a good thing, just not in this story. I knew what was gonna happen and there not any surprises. Nothing deserving of the hype or reviews.

Like I said it was not a bad book, just fell short of the expectations I had based on the reviews and blurb.
