The Room on Rue Amelie

5/5
Another amazing book by this author. Would have finished in on sitting if not for a few things and a three day migraine.
I loved most of this characters, except maybe the hubby. Even though though he did a positive thing to help. I liked Ruby, nice name, was from American. She was loosely based on a real American, Virginia. This made the book even better for me. Charlotte and her parents.

What a tearjerker of an ending though, with that finally twist. I enjoyed this one very much. The details of the chain and how they saved the pilots was well done. Even after it had been compromised, and what happened to those who were caught.

Definitely will be reading more from her.

Eight Perfect Murders

 4/5

I should have seen that coming!!! That last page is what earned the fourth star. Face palm, I can’t believe I didn’t catch it earlier. Brilliant !!!

This book is more for those who like the older mysteries. Agatha Christie fans will enjoy this. It is definitely a slow burner but the twists will have you reeling. I loved all the mentions of the classic mysteries. Couple of which I now want to read. I did not know A. A. Milline wrote a mystery novel. This still has me shaking my head. How did I not see it ?? Kudos for that !!

What I didn’t like about the book, they gave away They gave away the spoilers for several books. So beware. Two of which are Agatha Christie. It you can still enjoy that books with the spoilers.

All in all say it was a good book, loved all the old mysteries and movies they mentioned. Loved the plot twists. It was a book of books. Extra points for mentioning here comes duckings statues, frog pond, Cheers, basically Boston. Also for Agatha Christie.

The Perfect Stranger

 4/5

This the second favorite of her books I like. It was better the The Last House Guest, just as good as All Girls Missing I just like the timeline change up in the latter

This book was two mysteries that connect. I never figured out who, but there was very little information on that it was eye opening as to how easy it is for someone to just disappear into then air, especially if they never existed. The story was original and that was actually what I liked about it.

What bothered me, if Leah was not guilty of what she was accused of, why move and start over ?? I admit I know very little about journalism but I’m pretty sure the innocent don’t run. Aaron was a man who made his choices, she could not have been held accountable. She did confirm what I was thinking. When Leah visits Paige and realize all was not what it seemed, Leah should have taken that information and changed the outcome of her professional career.

Loved the ending. I liked the story. The characters was different, and each had their own secrets and reasons for starting. I thought Leah just gave up to easily. Becoming a teacher was interesting and added to the story. All and all. I liked this.

The Chestnut Man

5/5

After reading my last translated book I wasn’t sure if this would live up to my expectations. It surpassed them. I was guessing who and why to the very end. The Chestnut Man was one of the three I expected, just never was able to narrow it down more.

I wanted the victims to get away and reading with that anticipation. The heart pounding moments that kept you on the edge of your seat. It definitely ain’t for the faint of heart. Then there were moments when you wanted to cover your eyes but hard to know what happened.

This book kept me reading, where I had lost track of time. Definitely kept my attention. The author did a great job of keeping up with the story line while adding to it. You find out the past as well as continuing to with the present. The characters all connected to one another one way or another.

Really enjoyed this book. If you liked The Whisper Man you’ll definitely like this one as well. I can see why he has a great TV series.

Girls Like Us

4/5
I really enjoyed this book. The author’s writing reminds me of Mary Higgins Clark but more depth. Characters that were interesting.

I liked Nell and Lee. I thought she was smart and savvy. They made a great team. I could see them as a series. If that happened I definitely would be reading. The final twist of who done it, was well done. Who would of thought ??

There was some unhappy, sad moments in the book that I wish had not happened but I guess it may have been necessary. Wish that could’ve been changed. I kept turning pages hoping it didn’t happen. Sadly, it did.

Her writing was very enjoyable and made for a quick and easy read. Kept me interested and turning pages. This is my first book by her but hopefully it won’t be the last.

The Sisters

4/5
This one was a slow burner, not fast paced but still enjoyable. I was constantly questioning and wanting answers. I did get the who done it but I knew Bea had more of a story we did not know and I kept trying to figure it out.

I did like this book. I thought it was a little different, which is good, and had a good story. Both the main characters you can tell are hiding or lying about something. I thought it odd a lot of stuff that Abi does, and the so did I will Bea. I also liked the added an apartment full of artists. I thought was an added bonus.

The only thing, the title catch phrase 'one lied one died.' Didn't really go with the book. At least not to me. The Sisters was a good title but not the description so much. Did not take away from the story. Nor did it change my opinion of the book, which I did like.

If you like slow burners, I would recommend this one.

The Broken Girls

5/5
bit of everything and then tied with a pretty little bow.
It kept my interest and I admit I missed a clue or two. Not that is mattered to much. I liked how she wrote in to dual timeline and then it all came together. It was not the same thoughts as other books. Fee, Fiona, was actually bright and solved what needed to be solved, it was like an ah ha moment, and I should have known. The author did a great job of the little twists and turns, especially towards the end.

I loved the creepy feel there was in the books as well, it made the reading even more enjoyable. The Idlewild school and history made it all the better. How the girls talked to the younger generations. Liked the girls and the difference that made the unique.

Definably recommend. looking forward to reading more from her.

Irena's War

3.5 rounded up. The first part of the book was good best it’s the last part with all the action the earned the round up.
Thanks to Kensington Publishing for book.

Let me start by saying I was back and forth on the book. First it felt like something was missing. Not sure what it was but it just wasn’t there. Then I did not connect with Irena. As much as I wanted to it didn’t happen. Every time, she seems things are going well and she may be likable she does something stupid or immature to ruin it. Many times she acted like a spoiled little brat because something didn’t go the way she wanted. Starting with her mother. A lot of what happened that was heroic was actually an action for something else. She was also easily talked into doing things by others. I don’t know if this how she was in real life or the author’s creativity. I felt kinda bad for not liking the person who couple good things. As for Adam I did not like him at all.

I am not saying this is not a good book, because actually it was good. It’s just the characters were not likable.

follow up edit

the more I read about Irena the more it seems the author may have got her all wrong. I have seen stories before about her but those were left out of this book. I feel the author just did not do the research or wanted it to be a fictional work that may have had little to do with who really was.

The Last House Guest

4/5
Wanted to have finished this by years end but didn’t work that way. So what a great way to start a new one ??

Let me start by saying I did enjoy this book. Not as good as All Girls Missing. Was a good storyline line some of which was predictable. But kept me interested all the way through. I liked they made Avery a strong person. I just wished she didn’t idolize Sadie so much. Which does somewhat change. I think Sadie was using her for the most part and Avery only realizes this after some information is discovered.

Still a good read. Easy and fast.
